Bennelong

"I am reading currently about the aboriginal Bennelong who Arthur Phillip captured to become a liaison with the colonies. Everyone thought he was rad. Then Bennelong escaped, because he didn't want to be no white man's Watson. Then he got rejected by his own people and returned to being a white man's Waston. He lived in Governor Phillip's yard in a hut. Later, he built a hut at the top of the harbour. It was nicer. Bennelong died young, and lonely. Many years later, we built the Opera House where his hut used to be. It was even nicer than the new hut. Cultural imperialism, and alcohol, in a nutshell, is what did it for Bennelong."
